Bay Area Wheelchair Tennis: 2nd Annual BAWT All-Comers Camp Recap

This past weekend, Independence High School in San Jose was alive with energy, passion, and community as it hosted the 2nd Annual Bay Area Wheelchair Tennis (BAWT) All-Comers Camp! Players made the journey from across California—including San Diego, Mission Viejo, Sacramento, and Humboldt—to join local athletes for an intense and inspiring 12 hours of training over two days.

From juniors as young as 11 to seasoned veterans in their 70s, the courts were filled with a vibrant range of talent and experience. Coach Greg Hasterok, head coach of the San Diego State collegiate team, brought elite instruction and teamed up with NorCal legends Donald Bearden and Marty Anderson to lead high-level, multi-court sessions that pushed and elevated everyone on court.

👏 Special shoutouts go to:

Mark and Caleb, Adaptive’s newest players, for joining our pros Alycia and Phil in representing and supporting the Northern California USTA Section Wheelchair Tennis community.

The incredible BAWT organizers—Justin, Tom, Danny, Kylie, Michelle, Marcy, and Ashley—for hosting another top-notch event.

Our juniors and their parents—we hope you gained valuable knowledge and confidence. We’re excited to see Nora, Zachary, and William back out competing soon!

A warm welcome and thank you to our blind tennis fans, Erik and Jesus, who stopped by Sunday to check out the action—your support is felt and appreciated.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you as well to Christy, RL, and the rest of our dedicated NorCal USTA Wheelchair Tennis Committee members and team who worked behind the scenes to help make this camp a reality. Your continued efforts are what keep this community thriving.

Another stellar event is in the books, and we’re just getting started—Silicon Valley, Stockton, Modesto, and SacTown, we’re coming your way this summer!
